Welcome to my webpage! Below you can a brief biography of myself including who I am, my hobbies, passions, and goals for the future. Above you can find links to my semester 1 and 2 of my year in junior seminar that include various projects and units.
Hello, my name is Layton Borst and I am a 17-year-old junior living in Saint Croix Falls Wisconsin. On 4:12pm November 1, 2002 I was the second
child born to my two loving parents: Leslie and Lee Borst. My sister, Lauren Borst, is two years older than me and is currently attending St. Olaf College in Northfield,
MN. My mom is a hair dresser in Stillwater and my dad runs his HVAC business: Air Flow Mechanical. For my entire life we have lived together on a small hobby farm in Saint
Croix Falls that is currently also home to a tortoise named Ora, a fish named Wally, a crazy dog named Hera, and 3 cats: Pointy, Daisy, and Lucia.
If I had to describe myself in one word, it would have to be motivated. I am the type of person that has a thirst to learn new and interesting things about the world and how it works. When I come across something that I don’t understand, unlike the average teen that would just give up, I have grit and I don’t give up until I find an answer. Regardless of this, I am still a teenage boy and I often spend more than a fair amount of time playing video games or surfing the internet. My perseverance helps me tremendously in school as I try to challenge myself by taking hard classes. I mostly enjoy classes that involve science and solving problems probably because by nature, I think about everything in a very analytical manor and I habitually ask one basic yet often forgotten question: why? In class, while others take what is said in a textbook or lecture as a given fact needing no explanation, I love to not only know the what, but also the why.
In addition to school, I am also a part of student council, soccer, and track. In addition to this, I work at “The Drive In Restaurant” in the summer and I plan to get a job for this winter. With a busy schedule, I need time to feel free and be myself. Skiing has almost always been a major hobby of mine as I started skiing at the age of only 2. Unlike your ordinary skier that might just go I runs, I could usually be found in the terrain park doing anything from grinding rails to flying off a jump at our local ski resort: Trollhaugen. In addition to this I have spent most of my free afternoons since seventh grade in the weight room, which has kept me both happy and healthy. Apart from this, I spend the most of my remaining free time playing the acoustic guitar.
As mentioned previously, over my high school career, I have found that I really like science. Due to this, I hope to go major in BCMB in college and go to medical school to eventually become an anesthesiologist. I hope that this choice will leave me happy in my future because I feel like happiness is the goal of life. Click here to learn more about BCMB.
