"I've failed over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed." —Michael Jordan

Born in Saint Croix Falls, 16 years ago, my story began. Being named after light, my parents were setting me up to succeed and fulfil expectations. Throughout my lifetime, I've lived in the same house on the same hill whereanimals are considered family. Life lessons, for my family and I, have been shown through these animals more than one many think. The variety of animals of our hobby farm was far from normal. Horses, dogs, cats, chickens, and guinea hens showed us life wasn't going to be a cake walk. My family motto regards that family is above all else. I've lived with my mom, dad, brother, and sister for 10 of my 16 years; college being the reason for my siblings' departure. "Family is the most important. When all else fails, you'll have family". My dad would always express this in a way that showed all five of us that, no matter how bad life gets, we'll always have each other. Our family has always been involved in sports from my older sister and down to me. On Sundays, we make it a priority to be together. We go to church, watch the packers, and have a family dinner. This is one of our many traditions.

As taught from a young age, I have to work for what I get and deserve. Through sports this life lesson was sure to become apparent. I started playing sports when I was as young as six years old, from there I've only grown mentally and physically. Playing basketball, volleyball, and running track have all helped me become a team player rather than a "me" player. I've been apart of the regional champion basketball team, back to back regional champs in volleyball, and all conference track teams. The establishment of my friendships from sports are things that will never perish. Two of my most memorable events in sports was being awarded first—team all conference and winning back to back regional chapionships for volleyball. Charles Spurgeon said, "Friendship is one of the sweetest joys in life". I believe that this quote is true because in my life my friends are the people I can count on to always put a smile on my face. Whether it's hanging out together, playing sports, or playing intense Super Mario Bros we always laugh uncontrollably until our stomachs ache. Even though we're now sixteen, we still love to have massive sleepovers and staying up late and watching movies. My friends are truly my second family and without them in my life wouldn't be able to function.
